Tonsillitis

Tonsillitis is an inflammation of the tonsils caused by an infection. In tonsillitis, the tonsils are enlarged, red, and often coated by a substance that is yellow, gray, or white. Tonsilitis usually begins with sudden sore throat and painful swallowing. Tonsillitis usually spreads from person to person by contact with the throat or nasal fluids of someone who is already infected. If the tonsillitis was caused by a virus, the length of illness depends on which virus is involved. Usually, people are almost completely recovered within 1 week. However, medication can be prescribed to alleviate the symptoms.

Symptoms vary from person to person. Some of the major symptoms are sore throat, fever, redder-than-normal tonsils, chills, a yellow or white coating on the tonsils, a funny-sounding voice, swollen glands in the neck, and bad breath.

Home Remedy for Tonsillitis

Tonsillitis home treatments are quit effective, you can try following tips at home.

*Mix a teaspoon of salt in eight ounces of quite warm water. Gargle the whole mixture several times a day. This will increase the blood supply to the area, thereby enabling better circulation of infection-fighting antibodies.

*Milk has proved beneficial in treating tonsillitis. In 1 glass of pure boiled milk, add a pinch of turmeric powder and pepper powder. Drink it every night for about 3 days.

*Add the juice of one lemon and one teaspoon of salt to one cup of warm water. Gargle three times a day for one minute.
